Facing redundancy.

We had some bad news last week. Our boss read-out a release from head office stating that our parent company (Ingersoll Rand) are starting a rationalistion program within Europe. I work for Trane UK at their Colchester factory, and we have been told that due to being under-staffed and under-utilised, we are at risk of the plant closing.

2 days ago, we started a 30-day conciliation period, and as 1 of the elected reps, I sat through a 1 1/2 hour meeting in which we asked about closure dates, vacancies in Golbey (were our work will potentially relocated to). whether the company will be bringig-in advisers from DWP etc.
All-in-all we asked 26 questions of which the majority were answered with 'no'.

At 41 years of age, I must say I am not looking-forward to the possibilty of loosing my job. I do have 16 years worth of redundancy payment to look forward to, but I have no idea how long this will last. What with bills to pay, and the need for a car due to my location, it all adds-up.

As a result of this unforseen circumstance I have started to try a sell stuff on Amazon, Ebid, Ebay & am looking at Play.com as well.
Hopefully I can make enough of a turn-over to become self-supporting at some stage.
