Thought I'd have a bit of a de-clutter over Christmas and turn some unwanted items into cash.
Having been a regular on 'MoneySavingExpert.com' for a few years, I had picked-up one or two tips on who are good and who to avoid.
First-off, having run some CDs through 'Music magpie' a year or so back, I knew they were on the cheap side when it came to pricing items, hence not sending the discs I'd entered in the original 'go'.
This time around, I had come across 'Zapper'. Now, having loads of books to dispose of, and books being one of the items they purchase, I scanned-in about 90 book barcodes and got offers on 7 books. This was below their 25 item minimum, so I added a few CDs, but still only had 15 items, so left it at that. One of the books, 'Viz - The big one' was being priced at over £4.00, This was way more than the 50p it cost me from a carboot sale, so I was well-chuffed.
Yesterday, I dragged a box of DVDs out and decided to add them to the Zapper list (Zapper saves your list for you until you are done). As my original list was over 7 days old, I had to do a refresh, and was disappointed to discover my Viz annual was now only worth 79p.
Still, at least I had enough DVDs to get over the 25 items needed.
Out of 65 DVDs, 46 were accepted.
What I did then was to return to 'Musicmagpie' and scan-in all the non-accepted DVDs and they offered a price on the lot. As I had the scanner set up, I ran the whole box of stuff for 'Zapper through 'Musicmagpie' and found to my gain that some of the DVDs and a couple of CDs were fetching higher offers on 'Mm' than 'Zapper'.
These were soon removed from the Zapper list and added to the Mm pile.
I reckon by scanning everything into both sites and then comparing the prices offered, I have gained around £2.50 extra cash for very little extra work.
So, it looks like if you want to really make decent money, you have to make-sure to scan in to more than just one service. Thinking about it, I could have also tried 'CEX' and 'Mozuma' had I had the time.
Anyway, the Zapper box went freepost today and the Musicmagpie will be going-out Monday.
I will have to update on how many items got through each company's inspection process and how fast I they paid me.
UPDATE
Today, I got an email from 'Zapper confirming my items had passed QC and a cheques is on its way. That just leaves 'Musicmagpie'
UPDATE 2
Yesterday I had an email from Musicmagpie, my cheque is on it's way, so both companies turned-around the sent items really quickly.
