The Queen has been on the Throne 60 years today (and my O/H moans if I'm on it more than 2 minutes). If the Royal Family were a business, would they have a place in today's society ?.
For a start-off, Let's look at the R/F as a market brand. As such, they have been 'trading' for close-on 950 years, give-or-take a few decades. They may have changed-hands more than once, but the brand they created is as strong today as it ever was.
There have been a couple of 'take-over' attempts, but still the brand survives.
In the modern world there are few brands that have such world-wide appeal, however, not all countries welcome the Royals as warmly as we would expect them too. This might have something to do with previous Heads of the Royal Household attempting to branch-out and gain larger chunk of the world at the expense of other Royal Families. Such aggressive take-overs have been viewed with disdain and almost all the 'Franchises' have since left the 'Company'.
The individual 'Board Members' each appear to have their own unique traits, some of which are quite eccentric.
Take for example, The Queen. Her role as 'CEO' has seen her deal with many visits from other Heads of State as well as paying visits herself. The venerable old girl refuses to relenquish the helm and will more than likely leave the role in a coffin.
Her 2nd in command is HRH Prince Phillip. Although he is a loyal companion to the Queen, he is prone to the odd gaffe. The damage done to the brand is, however, very minimal. Like the Queen, he is very customer-focused and can always be garrantteed to please the crowds and bring a smile to the faces of all.
The next generation.
The next head of the 'Company' is Prince Charles. Twice-married father of two, Charles does have a few 'exentric' traits, such as his love for the environment. He does have experience of customer-facing sales, having set-up 'Duchy Originals'. He knows all about sourcing and supplying goods.
His other 'arm' involves business investment and growth via his 'Princes Trust' brand.
Just like his dad, he to is also not unknown to make the odd comment about things in life, once describing the award-winning theatre at Essex University as ' a giant steel dustbin'.
The major income stream for the Royal Family is from the UK Tax payer, are they worth the investment ?. Well, considering the amount of work they put-in promoting the UK, they are a good investment, however, they are rather top-heavy with shopfloor staff. In a modern world, a good number of the support functions could be combined or possibly out-sourced as a way to reduce operational costs.
